TV IDENT ANALYSIS

 I'll be analysing a variety of different ident in which ill be using as ideas for my final ident
  • I will be looking at various different ident’s which have been used by television companies such as the BBC.
  • I will analyse each ident using a set of questions which will look into various details of the ident such as colour, length, meaning and I will also carry out a short survey to find out the audience reaction of each ident.


The Questions

    •Which channel uses this ident?
    •How long is the ident?
    •What are the sounds used within the ident?
    •What is the content of the ident?
    •Was the ident created using animation or live footage?
    •Who is the target audience for the ident?
    •What are the settings/characters/props used for the ident?
    •How does the ident relate to the TV Company?
    •How is the TV Company advertised?
    •What are the good points about the ident?
    •What are the bad points about the ident?
    •Is the ident effective?
    •Does the ident have a hidden message?
                                                            


                                                                ITV - IDENT


  • The idents were used in ITV
  • The Ident Is about 7 seconds long
  • Instrumental sounds can be heard in this
  • It’s a sequence which has a variety of different things showing things like sports and animals for an example.
  • Its more of a animation footage built on a sequence
  • The video looks old and not that colourful so I think its target audience will be adults to the elderly.
  • The settings go in a pace from animals, sports and dance which you can clearly see people do.
  • It relates to a TV company because it has there logo on it.
  • The TV Company is advertised in a sequence of different things.
  • I can’t find any good points.
  • It looks boring, generic, cheap, dull not colourful anything you will hate in an ident is there.
  • The only effective thing the ident has, is making people change the channel
  • The hidden messages are basically the content and stuff the channel contains.
                                   

                                              BBC 2 – HEROES IDENT
        
   

  • The ident is used by the BBC
  • The ident is about 22 seconds long
  •  Instrumental sounds can be heard and Crows sounds
  • The content is a dark and you can see a man walking all edgy and not formal
  • A live footage has been used in this ident
  • The target audience will be around  teenagers to young adults cause of its dark look
  • A familiar character from the show has been used in this ident which people will recognise instantly what show it is
  • This ident doesn’t relate to the channel whatsoever , its just the to draw viewers in to watch a new series
  • The TV company is advertised because at the last view seconds of the video you can clearly see his eye have a number “2” which is BBC 2
  •  I like the whole edginess and darkness of the trailer and the actor dressing and looking totally different then the one he is usually portraying (Always sharp with a suit)
  • There should at least be a variety in the trailer then him walking alone and then standing with crows.
  • Yeah the only hidden message you see is the ending of the BBC 2 number at the end


                                                    CHANNEL 4 SIMPSON IDENT
                         
                         
  •  The ident was used by Channel 4
  • The ident is about 39 seconds long
  • No instrument has been used  just Homer Simpson’s voice throughout the
  • Video
  • The ident shows the main character trying to take some beer from an electrical wire and this causes him to be electrocuted  
  •  This ident was created by using animation footage which contained one of the worlds favourite shows like the Simpson
  • The target audience of the ident is for fans of The Simpson’s, children and adults as this is a show enjoyed by people of all ages
  • The ident is set by the shows location Springfield and you can clearly see that because Homer Is at his home
  •  Each time that homer gets electrocuted you can clearly see the channel 4 logo coming
  • There is a lot of positives because firstly the ident is really enjoyable, secondly one of the funniest characters in the shows is involved and lots of humour has been added in this ident
  •   I cant find any bad things about this
  •  A hidden message might be that people will go to extreme lengths for alcohol, this may be unnoticeable to the adult mind, but the children watching this ident may have this thought
  •  

                                                           TOON DISNEY IDENT                             


  •  This ident was used by the Disney
  • The ident is about 8 seconds long
  •  You can hear the air balloon machine and the Disney logo making squeaky awkward noises.
  • The ident uses the factions of the Disney channel other channel toon Disney’s logo inside an air balloon machine.
  • This ident was created by animation footage
  • The target audience will be kids around the age of 3 to 7 or even younger then that.
  • This ident has not got location but its on top of the air and the logo is a in a balloon machine
  • You can see the logo clearly by the Disney’s design
  • The positive thing is its short snappy and colourful
  •  There is nothing extra which the thing is offering
  •  Nope not really.
 
                                                 ITV XFACTOR IDENT



  •  This ident was used by ITV
  •  This ident is about 10 seconds long
  •  You can clearly hear song through out the whole duration of the ident
  • You cant see the ITV logo at all but you can clearly see another companies logo instead
  • This ident was created by live footage, this is because you can see people on it
  • The target audience of this ident will be of all ages cause its colourful and looks fun
  • The locations look as if it’s in a warehouse and no recognisable people has been used in this ident but Instead normal people.
  •  You cannot see any ITV logo at all
  • The positive thing about the ident is that its really colourful, its fast and its fun this is because you can see people moving around and colours are showing
  •  Not a lot of movement , no recognisable people
  • Yeah you can see TALK TALK advertising there company to the people to join them.

    ITV - Futher Ident Analysis

    Before i start having any ideas on how my channel will look or what its name will be like. I would have to do some research on a current channel which is succesfull and use that as and example and inspiration to my final product.

    ITV
    ITV is a public service network of British commercial television broadcasters, set up under the Independent Television Authority (ITA) to provide competition to the BBC. ITV is the oldest commercial television network in the UK, having begun broadcasting in 1955.

    While the BBC is a really recognisable brand which the majority of people already know what it stands for. ITV on the other hand not a lot of people know, so this is what they are called ""Independent Television ". While BBC is already as a household name in british media and television ITV is the 2nd. ITV has a variety of shows which can attract a variety of different age groups, they have shows thats are time slots in the day to suit the age group they are attracting  for example at 7 am in the morning is were the kiddies watch, while at 10pm is for the grown ups.






    ITV over the years since there interception in 1955, they had a lot of variety of idents in to which they established in 1989.  They had adapted to the times very well because as you can see in my research it gets newer and newer and the quality of the design looks more vivid and smooth.  My aim is too do something similar even though at the start i wont be funded to make an ident. I would like to change and adapt my new ident with the times if my website becomes a hit with viewers.
